The influence of slitting and trunk girdling
on ‘Renkloda Ulena’ plum cultivar growth and yielding
Summary
In the experiment on cherry-plum, bark belts were taken off from ‘Renkloda Ulena’ plum cultivar and shallow cuts were made opposite to each other on 1/2 and 3/4 of trunk circumference. As a result of the used treatments, executed every year, it was observed that yields rose. Removing bark from the first trunk circuit, as the less damaging, caused yielding increase just in the first year of the treatment. Every kind of cutting trunks under the place of a treatment reduced the trunk diameter growth. The unfavourable effect of the treatments was appearing in the form of many offshoots on trunks and very troublesome root suckers.
